Private jet from Mumbai to Dubai: DXB or DWC?

A private jet from Mumbai to Dubai covers about 1,925 km in a straight line, a little over two hours in the air at the speed of a light jet. Dubai has two airports, Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC), and the more useful question is which one your flight should use.

The distances and times in this article are our own arithmetic from airport coordinates and the published speeds, so they're straight lines before wind, climb and descent.

The distances

By our calculation, from Mumbai (BOM) it's about 1,925 km to DXB and about 1,934 km to DWC, so the choice makes almost no difference to the flight itself. From Delhi it's about 2,182 km to DXB and 2,213 km to DWC. DXB and DWC are about 45 km apart in a straight line, so which one you land at changes the drive at the other end far more than the flight.

What we can say about the two airports

Dubai Airports, which owns and manages both, says Dubai International is the world's busiest airport for international passengers. It describes Al Maktoum International (DWC) as Dubai's second airport, which opened to passengers on 27 October 2013, and says it supports seasonal charter and scheduled operations as well as cargo and general aviation.

On general aviation specifically, Dubai Airports says it launched general aviation operations at DWC on 28 April 2011, after the General Civil Aviation Authority approved the facility on 24 February 2011, and that DWC recorded more than 930 general aviation flights in a single week in December 2022.

We haven't found a comparable statement from Dubai Airports about private-jet handling at DXB, so we won't say one airport is easier than the other. That is a question for the operator and the ground handler, who know the arrangements for your date.

Which aircraft can make the trip?

Range isn't the problem on this route. Embraer lists its Phenom 300EV light jet at 2,055 nautical miles and speeds up to Mach 0.80, and Mumbai to Dubai is about 1,040 nautical miles in a straight line. The Beechcraft King Air 360 is listed at 1,806 nm, but at its published 312-knot cruise the trip would take about 3 hours 20 minutes, against a little over two hours in the jet. Published range figures assume a particular load and reserves, so confirm the range for your passengers and bags; see choosing a jet by passengers and range.
